Backpacking Cabinet Mountains Montana August 2-5 2005

Grandpa Rich (70 years), Pete (16 years) and I went on a trip to the Cabinet Mountains. This was the second trip for me and the third trip for Grandpa Rich. Last time we got skunked on the ridge due to a huge rainstorm. This time we finally made it to the lake.

Special Thanks to:

Grandpa Rich for coordinating this trip and purchasing meals.

Greg for letting Pete borrow your backpack.

Chuong at Big 5 for letting me take the time off short notice.

Nothing like packing for a trip at midnight! Backpacks almost packed, food prepped to go in, and clothing strewn about!
Here is Pete washing a few dishes and water bottles before we go to bed.
The next morning, we woke Levi up and he wanted to go with us!
Pete and I taking our packs out to the Jeep!
After we picked up Grandpa, we drove to Sandpoint for Breakfast. This is the first time we have gotten an early start for a trip! (Breaking the tradition)
Here we are. The meal wasn't that great but I won't name names like (Panhandler Pies) because I don't want to hurt their business.
Pete taking a solo shot of himself as we fly down the road.
The money shot! Technology coming out of our kazoo. 2 GPS units, 2 Cell phones, and a CD player!
Here is a map of our trek that is posted at the trail head. It turned out to be about 9 miles all up hill and a little down. We gained a lot of elevation quickly.
"Can you hear me now?"
Yah got that truck parked yet? Departing at 10:45 AM.
Pete 16 Grandpa Rich 70. This is Peter's first trip ever and we brought him on a tough one!
All this standing around is killin' me!
Up we go!
Took a break at the only water spot on the trail. A nice stream comes down between the hills delivering fresh cold water and plenty of bugs.
