KHQ-TV

USA - Two people are recovering after an explosion at Monday night's fireworks show in Liberty Lake. The explosion took place shortly before 11 p.m. on the fireworks barge, but it wasn't immediately clear exactly what went wrong.

Medstar was called to the scene. A wife of one of the two injured fireworks technicians told KHQ that both are being treated at Sacred Heart Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

No spectators were injured.

Fireworks are also being blamed for a fire at a pool house at an apartment complex in Spokane Valley. It broke out shortly after 10 p.m. at 32nd & University. The structure sustained fire and smoke damage. The blaze started in the shrubs. There were no reports of any injuries.

And there was a fireworks accident in Priest River. The technician, 54-year-old Dave Sylvester of Spokane, suffered burns and lacerations to his hand and leg when a launch tube exploded about 15 minutes into the Priest River fireworks display on the banks of the Pend Oreille River. He is in stable condition at a Spokane hospital.

The West Pend Oreille fire chief says the crews from a regional pyrotechnics display company may have been using a new line of fireworks for the show.
